Ministry Lunch - Sharing Christ with the NAtions Through RUF International

Join us for lunch (provided) to discuss how you can apply your seminary training to the work of cross-cultural evangelism, hospitality, discipleship, teaching, and more. The nations are already gathered here on our college campuses. Will we share Christ with them? The following story shows why:
“I’ve been researching Christianity online but I’ve never met an actual Christian until today.” This is a real quote from an East Asian student on his first day of grad school at an Ivy League university. After deep involvement with an RUF-I ministry, just two years later he was secretly baptized in an underground church back in his home country that is legally closed to Christian missions. Not all RUF-I student stories end this way but it displays the unique and pressing opportunity that is waiting in the backyards of our local churches.

Rev. Stiller will present material from his DMin dissertation titled “A Picture Set Us Free: Preaching to the Imagination in a Secular Age.” One of the biggest challenges to preaching the Christian faith in the modern West is a growing inability to make sense of the basic categories that comprise a Christian worldview. Drawing on the work of Charles Taylor, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and others, the dissertation explores how preachers engage the imagination during sermons to help people in the closed or open immanent frame shift to an open transcendent frame.
